“Git In The Gym, Son!”

26 05 2008

I pay $31.99/month for my 24 Hour Fitness gym membership.

Around Fall ‘08 finals, I started getting really busy with school work/finals, so I decided to take a “little” break from the gym. Winter break comes, Winter ‘09 intersession comes, and Spring ‘09 semester comes and I’m still taking a “little” break from the gym.

It’s been about 5 months since I’ve gone to the gym on a daily/weekly basis and I’ve paid a total of $159.95 within those 5 months.

I think it’s time to “git in the gym, son!”

…as soon as I find my iPod and gym membership card. Hahahaha. SAD.

Mo Money, Mo Problems

22 05 2008

I had some time to kill before picking up the kids, so I ended up going to Wells Fargo to grab a couple of coin inserts to organize my spare change. After separating and counting the quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies, and foreign coins (I have no idea why I had some), I ended up with $52.50! Amazing how I found over $50 with all the coins lingering around my room, hmmm?

Anyway, after counting all those coins, I couldn’t help but think about the issue of “money” and how our idiotic society conceives their ideas to distribute salaries within each profession.

According to the “Salary Wizard“, people with MD degrees (psychologists, pediatricians, family physicians, psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, dentists, surgeons, etc) make on average (also depending on the specific field) $76,000 to $440,000. The lowest is $76,000? That’s still a lot, right? Of course (at least I think so)! Doctors deserve to be paid that much because they’re physically and even mentally helping to maintain and/or restore human health.

It is true that we can say every single profession is needed and helps shape our world into a better and brighter place, but in my opinion, I think doctors are one of the most important professions needed. People are constantly getting injured and without the labor of the doctors, things would be very different and ugly today. Therefore, I believe doctors should be paid the most.

So, are they? Well… you probably know the answer. NO. You also probably know who does, right? Yes… the “Celebrities”. I found this article on Sports Illustrated written in July 2006 about the “The Fortunate 50“, the 50 top-earning athletes in the United States. The #1 top-earning athlete of the U.S. is Tiger Woods, with a total earning of over $97,000,000. What in the world? That’s $96,694,000 more than an anesthesiologist that makes $306,000/yr! That anesthesiologist makes .32% of what Tiger Woods makes! A little absurd? I think so. So you might say that Tiger Woods also gets that much because of endorsements, but even if I don’t include the endorsements, he still makes about $10,000,000, which then means the anesthesiologist would be making 3.1% of what Tiger Wood makes (I even rounded down Wood’s salary).

Anyway, I also found this really awesome and informative website, Visualizing Economics, by author Catherine Mulbrandon that publishes information about the US and World economy through graphs, charts and maps. Why is this website relevant to my entry? Well, in her “celebrities” category, you can find four entries about the 2006 Highest Paid Celebrities. I can’t even visualize all that amount of green paper. It’s ridiculous how much money “celebrities” earn. I also love Catherine’s tags under each entry which include: income distribution, US income distribution, US income inequality, income inequality, celebrity, super rich. Hahaha. Worrrrrrrrrd.

Jason Mraz 2008 Album Release

15 05 2008

I love Jason Mraz’s new album that released two days ago, We Dance. We Sing. We Steal Things.

Metro Lyrics for lyrics!
Rhapsody to listen to the CD if you don’t want to buy it off iTunes yet (You have to install their program to listen and it limits to how many times you can listen to it. Lame, but yeah).

It has a wide mixture of styles. I must say it is a very “groovy” album. Hahah. So far, 3. Lucky (ft. Colbie Caillat) and 5. Live High have already become two of my favorites (and I haven’t even finished listening to the whole album yet!).

Enjoy!

The Least Of My Many Worries

12 05 2008

With all my fellow PCC Lancers hearing on admissions and selecting the best university to transfer to, I begin to worry about where I’m going to transfer as well.

I’m still debating whether I should apply to USC for undergrad because their School for Communications is the best in so.Cal (their Fine Arts in Photography is good as well; they’re just good in everything), but tuition is extremely expensive. Hearing that their tuition is increasing this coming year confirms my decision even more to not apply. I’d much rather spend a bulk of my money on Grad school. And, that is what I plan to do. I don’t know if it’s part of God’s plan, but I definitely want to go to USC for Grad school. I might even be able to study in London during my second year!

It’s funny when I think back because I remember the end of my senior year when I finally decided that I was going to go to PCC (All throughout H.S. I never considered PCC as an option) and transfer to USC after two years as a Biology major in the Pre-Pharmacy program. Now, fast forward two years to the present and I’m going to take a school year off and then hope to transfer to a Cal State to double major in Speech Communications/Communication Studies and Art with a concentration in Photography. Two totally different paths, eh?

Anyway, I digress. I’m getting too caught up and looking too much into the past and the future.

Basically I’m worried about undergrad. I thought it was going to be a lot easier to find a school with my specific communications major/photography minor and to fulfill all the units on time, but it isn’t! Apparently none of the schools in California offer a photography minor (except USC, but I decided not to go there for undergrad anymore) and very few selected schools offer the communication studies I want to major in. After hours and hours of researching, I did, however manage to sort of find two schools that have what I want. I just have to double major (which is another worry, but I won’t babble about it).

or

I’m also not even sure if I should even double major in Photography because there are so many units to take to get an “art” (why can’t they just have a dang photo minor?) degree and I have to be at the university for a semester or two until I can submit a portfolio and then wait to see if I get accepted, etc.

Why can’t finding a school to transfer to be easier for me? I haven’t even applied yet! I think God’s trying to tell me to not worry, slowwwwwww down and take it step by step. I just refuse to.

Anyway, until then, I’m just going to enjoy being awesome Lancer. To conclude, I’m really glad I decided to go to PCC first. By going to PCC I was really humbled, my walk with God grew, I figured out my passion in Photography, chose a major that I really wanted to pursue in, found a new home church to serve & build accountability, and so much more. So, I’m going to end this long entry with a logo of the best school evar:

Yeahhhhhhhhh, Lancers Class of 2008! Haha. I’m proud to be one. : )
